Imani Community Development Organization introduced us to the "mbili mbili" method of farming, where you plant two lines of maize and follow with two lines of legumes e.g beans, green grams etc. For the past four years, two different people each year have received farm inputs: planting fertilizers, maize seeds, legume seeds; top dressing fertilizers; enough to plant one acre of land. This has enabled group members to increase food production, hence reducing food shortages greatly. Once food security is achieved then we are able to start doing income generating activities and enterprise development and that is where we are now. If there is no long drought that affects our yields, then we are certain we will be able to buy our farm inputs every planting season.
Thank you Amani UK!
