Here is all the latest news direct from Kenya:
This year’s World AIDS day was marked and celebrated at Oyugis Agoro Sare field on 1st of December 2016. Like any other annual AIDS Day, people attended in numbers. Upendo Foundation International organization, being a major stakeholder in this cause, was heavily involved and was well represented by staff, community groups and the supported organisation, People Living with HIV/AIDS.
One of the activities Upendo does with groups and households is bee-keeping, which is studied as a topic in schools. To offer a more practical experience, Masanga Class 7 pupils have initiated a bee-keeping project with support from their UK link-school, Hazlemere C of E School. Masanga has a big piece of bush land which is not cultivated and very suitable for bee keeping and this will be a demonstration facility as the pupils study bee-keeping as a topic and at the same time will generate income from sales of honey.
On the 16th Feb 2016, a team of 10 Field officers from Upendo Foundation visited the Ecofinder (Dunga Wetland Pedagogical Center) organization in Dunga, Kisumu. We strive to develop the technological knowledge of the community we work with in the Oyugis region, to enhance their micro entrepreneurial skills, to use the locally available resources to improve their livelihoods and to help conserve the environment, and this was an opportunity for the field officers to learn more on the types of activities the organization does with the groups.
Mang'ang'a Youth Group celebrates 20 years since it was started by school boys in 1995. As we celebrate 20 years of selfless service to the community, we remember with appreciation the support of Amani UK. Through the Buy a Gift scheme we have given a lot of hope to many people in the Mang'ang'a community. We supplied bulls and ploughs, a local poultry house and school equipment to support group activities. Indeed many lives have changed due to the support from people in the UK.
